Shamed by Brophy.....
We visited Tulsa this Spring and got to spend some time with Herb Hand a couple of other times. The more we play around with the H back stuff the more I like it. I have no doubt that it will simplify the looks we will get from the defense, and it will help us more in getting to a good play. As all spread teams will tell you, its all about getting playmakers in open space with angles or numbers. The H back stuff can get you to open grass and numbers at the same time after you see what the defense is doing to you. Most spread teams have the ability to change the play at the LOS, but the H back stuff also allows you to change your formation (numbers) to get more people to the point of attack.

Also, we haven't even scratched the surface on the orbit motion with this package of stuff. Thats a whole new animal.
ReplyDeleteThis is really great! I was looking for some additions to our Inside Zone from the run game! I would say though that if defense reads keys properly - offensive linemen pulls and pass sets - they would not be as surprised.
ReplyDeletethats whats good about Gus & Herbs screen packages. They run the tunnel screen off of theire power/counter plays, pulling lineman. I personally dont think that many high schoolers are reading keys. I think they read flow a lot more than keys of lineman
ReplyDeleteIt is a system based on some great old school principles from single wing series. When the defense is sitting and reading is when they are easiest to attack! This means the D is not moving and blitzing and is vulnerable.
